La place du Chatelet occupied by the DAU exhibition

The exhibition offers a material experience of the Soviet Union. When I entered the Theatre du Châtelet on February 15th there was no way I could have recognized the place where French actors are celebrated each year in Les Césars. There was no trace of the red and golden decorations, rather it was all massively grey and dull. The back rooms have been de-decorated, leaving only a big screen and staircase with a few cushions to sit on. Overall it was a profoundly minimalist exhibition in terms of how many objects were present. There were no paintings, or status, but rather a reconstitution of … something. But what?
The theatre room BEFORE/DURING DAU

I believe the reconstruction of the DAU town to be, in its aesthetics, faithful to the proper materiality of the former Soviet Union.
